Kehinde is a New York based artist from Los Angeles. He paints larger than life images of young urban black males in poses of Renaissance paintings. I admire the photo realistic quality of the images.

In his artist statement, Kehinde says that he both glorifies and mocks his subjects. So his paintings have an interesting duality where kitch and seriousness are blurred.

His website is interesting. There are a lot of photos and even movies, but it is very difficult to navigate and his artist statement is written in gray on a black background – so it’s quite a pain to try to read.
